I'm gonna Purchase TT...

I'm Currently planning to purchase TT...The big problem is that they are only selling the games in a bundle...TT1 and 2 is they would consider selling. And it's a hefty price tag as well! Wish me luck! If I get the rights to the game I will market this game big time and I think it could be BIG..Like World Wide!

I've been planning this for a while! I knew they would take it off line because no one played or continued to buy the game...I would like to purchase it for less than 15K if possible...But my parents will buy it no matter the cost...Im buying the Rights from Oddlabs and then I'll have to purchase my own servers... Enough for about 50 people at the start and purchase more as people but the game..

Wow, I'm really impressed that this has gotten to the negotiations stage. I'd be willing to contribute a couple of thousand dollars to this! I asked Sune earlier via email whether a purchasing of the game would be possible, and he posed at least $30k to me (which is well out of my budget)... if you could get both for $15k then that'd be phenomenal. I'll send you a PM about this soon.

Well, Deathy, I'm not sure what has happened, but it appears that we don't even need to buy the rights to the game unelss we intend to make money off of it. I've been talking to Sune recently and I believe this for this reason:
The userbase is determined enough to keep it alive that Sune seems willing to just let us have the source for the game and resources necessary to host the server on our own once his machine dies. The machine the server is on now is old and unmaintained, and he said that as long as it can be fixed with a reboot of the machine, it's okay. But once it dies beyond that (which may not be hard to fix, but regardless they don't care anymore) then the game dies with it.

At that point, I'm sure he'll upload the source and resources for the game somewhere (if he doesn't, we'll poke him and prod him until he does ) and I'll take charge and assume the task of hosting a new server. If we do it this way, basically receiving the game and all that's left of it without buying the rights, we CANNOT receive any profit. The game won't be based on purchases at that point (a change I'd have to make to the actual workings of the game), people will just be able to sign up. I know this sounds like it'd make for easy boosting, but there are plenty of ways to counteract that. The structure of the game would change slightly, but for the most part, there'd just be a small time when the server is down while I'm preparing to revive TT.

I don't know what Sune's telling anybody else or if anybody is talking to him about the game anymore, but as far as I can tell, we'll just be a freeware, userbased community once Sune gives us the source. It won't be moneys, the genuine love for the game will keep it alive as we do what it takes. I explained it very well online earlier :/ I'm too tired to go into detail at this point.

EPIC_FAIL, the server they run now can host an indefinite amount. I don't think it costs them much at all.
It's not measured by price in how many players it can support, it's measured ni how much power and human intervention it takes to maintain.

Idk how much it'd be, I haven't looked at prices as I am willing to host it myself on a game console or something.

Well, one of the greatest things about the internet is that it's possible to remotely host a server from anywhere in the world. We pay a service to maintain a computer's physical details while we have unlimited access to it's filesystem and resources. From what I can tell, that's a rent of a bare minimum of $20.00 USD per month.

Alternatively, (and this is what I was expecting to happen) one of us (likely to be me, as I'm still at home and Dad would pay for it until I left home in a couple of years.) could just use a machine to host the TT server.

If we hosted the server, it'd be almost identical to as it is now. It would handle 50 people to a room, 6 to a game (until I can change that ), and such. I'd probably rewrite some stuff to make the chatrooms easier to read and communicate in, as well as have smoe default settings changed for better performance and such, but I'd leave it as it is in function. We wouldn't want to have a computer that caps off rather quickly (say, a computer that can't handle 2 games at once without lagging) but we also certainly don't want a computer that takes hundreds of dollars a month just in power alone.

That sounds pre good. In the future if the game grows to 20+ people at a time, I'll be interested in helping out with payments up to about $40 per month. But yeah this is something that we should probably move on considering TT is a ticking time bomb right now lol

Making a coding change that will support more than 6 players to a game and 50 people to a chat room would not at all be difficult, althuogh I'd have to modify the server to support it as well. But it'd be almost too easy to make such a big change.

It seems as if EAGLE has not purchased the game before it has gone fully open source. You can check out all of the source code over on Sune's github.

The game is very playable in single player, but currently there are some people working on getting multiplayer bootleg versions up and running and even a brand new version of the game!

This is great if you could do this! Please let me on in the first 50
